Transition from webpage to online store

Finally I'll be moving on to the online store this month, where real time purchase can happen. I'm yet to upload pictures, which is the one thing holding me back from going live (yay!).

In the mean time, I haven't started working on any new projects as yet. But I will be making new products for the store very soon.

Hair accessories for the little (and big?) girls

My girl loves the clips that I make. I added some of my latest creation to the store. I have the stone clips and the velvet ribbon clips. I LOVE the colours!
I have them in the store now. One is the fan clip and the other one is the little bow clip. I also have limited stock of the Rose Jewel clips (my girl loves the rose clip).

Ikat Rucksack

I have been busy with the usual run of life and had not taken the time to update on a my latest works. I made an Ikat Rucksack for my daughter for the new School Year. She loves it.

It is fairly simple. Has the net pouch at the sides to hold water bottle and other knick knacks she feels like keeping there and a space in the front of the bag to keep her snack box, so no separate snack bag this year! There is a magnetic clasp so that the lunch box won't pop out.

I have used a snap closure at the front and the top flap of the bag is faux leather or Rexine.

Special Couple

Got to hear some very good news from a very special friend 2 weeks back. Made the drawing to make something for them.

Fuzzy Fur cushions

I got some minky small fur fabric to make something special for a special friend and I thought I wanted to make some cushions out of those soft and cuddly fabric. I knew I wanted them in heart shape and square and here they are. These are amazing to just hold and cuddle! Feels just like you are holding a soft teddy.

Can you see (feel) the softness of this???

Freemotion Embroidery

They say that free motion embroidery is "painting" with your thread on a sewing machine. You make a design and make the design come to life using the sewing machine.

The below picture doesn't do justice to the thread colours. I first drew my design on the cloth using a water soluble marker and did the embroidery on top of my drawing.

I have used various thread types. It does take time and a LOT of thread to get it done, but it is fun to do if you don't mind changing the threads multiple times :-).

Two Toned Ikat Tote

That's supposed to be me, clutching my new bag :-), which is why I'm happy and singing in my head and  feeling of love and butterflies :-D.

And so, the latest addition to my online store - Tadaaa

It its a combination of Ikat fabric and black synthetic leather. This is one of the medium to large size tote. It measures about 13.5x15x4. Which is why you can see in the picture below my laptop easily fits into the bag (along with a ton of other things).

I have added a pouch / pocket to keep mobile / tiny receipts / papers, shopping list etc, provision to keep your pens / pencils and also the tiny hook where you can keep you keys so you don't have to search the whole bag for the keys. I did not add a zip closure, but added a magnetic clasp instead. There are two zip pockets, one at the back of the bag and one on the inside.

Blog to website

Earlier I had mentioned I'm working on something with respect to the thing that I make. It has been a Work In Progress for quite a while now. I had bought a domain name last year and was still thinking about whether or not to commit to a webpage. Finally I took the leap and got a webpage (yay!).
So the whole idea of setting up a basic webpage is to put up the different product types I hope to sew and sell. These are not going to be mass produced, but handcrafted, with love and care.
I took a break from my career for my kids. It wasn't a decision taken on a whim, but out of a real need. Do I like being a career woman? I sure do (like a lot of women out there) but among other things I realized that my kids were in a phase where they need their mother not the Nanny or housemaid, but ME. But I think I've reached a point where I want to do some good with all the things I make. I want to Spread the Joy... Yes, that's right! I'm happy when I sew or craft or bake and I want to share that happiness with others and my way of doing that was by putting up a sample photo of the products I make on the webpage and if anyone is interested in buying, they can get in touch with me :-). More on that later.

Ikat Boxy Pouch

It's official - I'm in love with the Ikat weave. And I thought, why not try something else this time? Like a pouch perhaps. School year is set to begin in June and I wanted to make a new pouch for my daughter. I showed her a few types and asked which one she wants and she picked the boxy pouch.
So this morning I made her a boxy pouch using a maroon Ikat weave.

Dinosaur... ROAR!!!

Yes! I made something today and it's easy to guess what that might be - A Dinosaur for my boy! We've been wanting to get a bunk bed for the kids for quite a while now and finally we ordered for one (yay!). And so, I heard the kids talking about their bed today and my daughter asked my son which toy he would want to hug while sleeping and he replied "Dinosaur" to which my daughter replied he can't take his plastic, noisy one and suggested Mommy could make him one :-). That girl of mine I tell ya! So the little fella asked me if I could make him a Dinosaur and sure enough I said yes! Piece of cake! Well, it was because I already had a green fleece which I knew I could use.

So off I went, got the fabric quickly drew a Dino outline and cut it and cut 4 tiny leg pieces and things just fell in place! Sewing the body piece didn't take much time. Sew all around, leaving about 2 - 3cms opening at the bottom of the Dino. We will stuff the Dino with the Polyfill through those 2 -3 cm wide opening. Once the Dinosaur is fully stuffed to your satisfaction, sew the bottom close. Hand sewing works the best in my opinion, however, I got lazy and I closed the opening using the sewing machine.

I had to add the eyes (buttons) and mouth and some spots on the Dino's body. All of that took time, but not too much. So here it is... my Dino

And there is Mumma's happy boy!

Lunch bag for Mr.

This is the first post after vacation. Finally, touched my sewing machine again this morning to make a new lunch bag for my Mr. Made the bag using a plain brown bag material and used a waterproof lining in black. For bag closure, instead of a zip / magnetic clasp, I added a layer of net towards the top of the bag and drawstring. I might add his initials to the bag.

Some more dresses, including Ikat dresses

Yesterday was a wee crazy sewing day. I was sewing the whole day through and now, my body is protesting against all the hard work. Here is what I made today. I have cut cloth for a pant for this top. Looks like I will be sewing it while on vacation.
Update: I sew the blue bottom for the top while using my mom's sewing machine which I'm quite sure is older than me :-).

A pair for twins :-)

 The Ikat dresses

I used plain / contrast cotton cloth for the bodice piece and the Ikat fabric for the bottom of the dresses. I must say I'm in love with the Ikat weave.

The bodice piece on this one is cream (though it appears white in the photo) and I used an easy sleeve technique usually found in baby / girls dresses.

For the bodice piece of the next I used a two toned fabric. Its a grey that has a slight shimmer to it.

Foam paded Lunch bag with magetic clasp

I've been making snack bag / lunch bags for my family for sometime now. Till date, I've made all the bags with zip closures. The only reason why I made it with zip was to ensure the spoons and forks  they take to school / office comes back. In other words I don't have to worry about the kids / dadda losing cutlery :-). But I decide to make one with a magnetic closure this time. I liked the bag, and so did my daughter (for whom it was made). The foam padding ensures the bag can stand on its own, unlike the previous ones she had which were just fabric bags.

I used the same fabric which I had used for my laptop bag.

Another summer dress ( inspired by junebug dress)

I've looked through so many dress patterns online and in shops and sometimes I have to adapt some designs and at other try my hand at it. This dress is inspired by the junebug dress pins in pinterest. I liked the pattern and wanted to give it my own twist.
